Biography
Location
Tunbridge Wells, England is the home town to Mike Russell. A spa town famous for "Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells", the prim middle classes and dodgy buskers.
Music Tastes
Mike's interest in music began in the 80s - the first cassette he ever bought was an album of Kylie Minogue - his music taste continued to
deteriorate
from this point. The rise of dance, house and trance during the late 90s gave him the perfect excuse to like music again. Mike was so enthused he purchased a synth!
Discovering Radio
Mike was recording radio shows in his bedroom from an age he can't even remember. He'd like to forget the shows too! After years of pestering radio presenters and sitting outside the Euston Tower in London Mike was awarded his first radio show. It was an exciting time for him - and the many presenters - who didn't recieve his over-enthusiastic demo tapes any longer (phew!)
Getting in to Radio
He was just 13 when he started presenting a weekly show on Hospital Radio. The next step was work experience at his local radio station. This included 'record filing' and 'tea maker' although soon he was answering phone calls and producing jingles (for free!). As soon as he could work (for money) at 16 he was scratching on the doors of a radio station by the sea. There was a beach, an amusement park and a slot arcade - Mike was living the dream.
Getting on the Radio
Mike has presented radio shows in London, Birmingham and other towns and cities across the UK. He has also lived and worked in a variety of different areas around the world. Foreign adventures include a breakfast show in Australia, guesting on a talk radio show in Los Angeles and picking Paw Paws for a day in the tropics. After his Paw Paw experience Mike swore never to eat one again.
Adventure
A keen traveller and mountain biker often way beyond what is humanly acceptable. Mike has spent 7 days of solitude in the jungle, mountain biked up and down Mount Wellington in Tasmania, bungy jumped (twice) and thrown himself out of an airplane (with a parachute - damn!) in New Zealand.
What Next?
Mike said, "I think I'd like to get into politics", oh no. Please NO!
